Date Number #1

His Name is Love

This morning while my music was on shuffle it landed on Track 05 which happened to be a track of me singing from when I was about 5 years old.  I was belting out the words…”His Name is Loooovvveeeee”  referring to our Heavenly Father.  This took me back for a moment and reminded me of how much freedom I had when I was a little tot.  I was free of the worries of this world and still had a beautiful sense of innocence.

Today I write to you from the scene of Date Number One.  It is simple and serene.  I’m at a bakery in Charleston called Normandie Farms in a small booth overlooking the morning hustle and bustle outside.  I am comforted by seeing a little old man across from me with his bible and journal; seemingly engaged in a similar morning ritual.  Today Jesus reminds me that He is my first love.  He is above all else.  He is my priority no matter what else I find my affections leaning towards.  I desire Him and His plan alone for me and it has taken me a long time to get to this place of hands lifted high in absolute surrender.  Jesus and I sip coffee, nosh on a fresh, buttery croissant and slowly make our way from the cafe.

Jesus replied, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Matthew 22:37

What things or people are drawing your affections these days?  Take a brief moment to do a little inventory of with who and where you place your priorities.  Are they in step?  Is He right up there near the tippy top?  Are you loving Him with the fullness of your being?

Lord Jesus~Help me today to love you fully and completely.  Help me to see you as you are… first love.  Father may I take inventory of the things and priorities that I place above you.  I confess that I want you to be first and at the very top of my list.  Thank you for loving me and giving me this commandment.  I am seeking you this day.  I want your way to be fulfilled in my life.  Amen
