One evening, I was sitting in my condo feeling a constant nudge. It was a prompting from Abba to come and bask in His presence. This would be our date! Resting and lingering in communion with Him. I put on some worship music that would help me to “soak” in prayer and meditation.
Today I’m actually going to assist you in getting into a meditative stature. After you have your worship music cued up, I want you to get relaxed and in a comfortable posture. Take a moment to get as comfortable as possible. Rest your arms by your side. Allow your body to relax. Start with your head and work down. Let the muscles around your face and jaw rest, relax your shoulders, your arms, your hands. Relax your chest, stomach, your hips, your thighs, legs and your feet. Just let go of all tension in your body. Notice your thoughts. Let them drift by. I want you to listen with your conscious mind for the Holy Spirit. Allow the rhythms of your own body to help you get to where you need to go. I want you to pay attention to your breathing. The constant rise and fall of your chest. There are so many things the body is doing without having to think about them. Feel this breath supporting and nourishing you. With every breath I want you to imagine breathing in the freshness of the Holy Spirit. On the exhale I want you to let go of the things that are no longer serving you. Maybe it’s greed, envy, resentment or expectations, etc.
In this time and space you have no where to go, no one to please and no agenda. As you focus on your breath begin to praise and worship the Father for all He has done on your behalf. Thank Him for the many blessings in your life. Remember all He has accomplished. When you are finished spending some time in praise begin to confess your shortcomings to Him. Take some time to listen for Him, allowing Him to examine your heart for anxious thoughts or any way in you that might be offensive to Him. After you have done this I want you to simply BE. Soaking involves a lot of quiet, with plenty of time to wait for the Father’s words to you. As you stay in this meditative state, you can thank Him for what He has done and you can ask for supplication on behalf of yourself and others. When you notice your thoughts drifting away from the moment, come back to your breath. You can even hold your hand on your stomach or heart and feel the gentle rise and fall of breaths. Think about how secure and safe you feel in this posture. Think about what you need now from the Father. Let Him provide for you in this moment. His infinite resources are available to you now. We are called to pray without ceasing. With this call to prayer we are given the gift of peace and metal clarity.
Are you taking time in the morning or night to talk to your heavenly Father? Can you integrate prayer into your day for a few minutes? Perhaps you can set a goal of 5, 10, 15 or even a half hour to do this? Is there a barrier in the way of you coming to Abba? If so, that barrier can be dismantled by the Spirit as you meet with Him in prayer.
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and PRAY and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
Dear Jesus~ I come to you yearning for your divine presence. I know that when I’m with you I am the most safe. Thank you for your abandoned pursuit of me. Thank you that you envelop me with your love when I seek you. You designed me to sit in your presence and dwell here in rest. I long to sing a new song. I am thirsty for your word that feeds me with the sweetest of foods. I taste and see that you are good. You say in your word to be joyful always, pray continually and give thanks in all circumstances. I am your child and I desire to have a grateful heart in all things. I soak in this serenity. I kneel in humility before you. I confess to you that my heart has grown distant. I want to close the chasm between you and I. I seek your face with a transparent heart and spirit. Guide me to a healing place. I beg you to create in me a pure heart and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Thank you Jesus that I can come and soak in prayer. I know that you hear me and that you answer in accordance with your will. I breathe in deep your mercy and grace this day. Thank you! In Jesus name I pray. Amen
