Presence

We spent an hour in yoga class today and it never ceases to amaze me how Jesus speaks to me while I’m on my mat.  In that place and on my mat is all that matters.  I do everything I can to quiet the ceaseless chatter in my mind so that I can be fully present. Today He and I are talking about presence.  I am attentive to the sound of His voice.  I am focusing on listening for His word for the marching orders for the day.

I recently returned from a two-week mission trip to Uganda.  Each evening we would debrief about the day and what our take-aways were.  Not only that we would discuss how we might implement these insights we gleaned from the day.  On the last day of our trip our leader asked us to pick a theme or take-away from the trip that we could take home with us back to the US.  The idea was to remember and recall not only what He had done, but to put that wisdom into daily practice.  My goal was to be present and “in the moment” as much as possible in my daily life like I am when I am in Uganda.  Today while in yoga class as I stood empowered in my warrior two pose I heard Abba say, “In my presence is fullness of peace and patience.” It’s so true that when we keep our mind stayed on Him, we receive that peace that surpasses understanding.  Sister, he is so patient with us and it should be a privilege and honor to reflect that same patience back to Him as we wait on Him to move in our midst.

How is your level of patience towards God?  Are you able to wait for him to answer after you have made a request?  Do you desire the kind of peace and stillness in your life that is available to you?  Where do you go to find that kind of peace and presence?  Is there a place in nature, in your home or another place you can go to enter in?  May we cultivate this practice of being present with Him whether we are in prayer or on the yoga mat.

“Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the Lord.”  Proverbs 8:34-35

Dear Jesus~I enter into this moment to rest.  I come to you to be renewed in your strength and presence.  Here in this space your love abounds.  I delight in this place of centered prayer with you, my Father.  Cover me Lord with your protection.  I ask you to direct my heart in your holy way.  You say in your word that the king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord; you direct it like a watercourse wherever you please.  Would you do that with my motives and decisions?  I desire to be in the very center of your will.  Father, I can be extremely selfish.  I can be so preoccupied with the details of the day and miss what you are speaking to me.  Move in me, Abba.  Stir up the passion in me for the very sound of your voice.  I am listening for you wholly and completely.  How can I be more present and in the moment?  Reveal your plan for my life this day.  May I be sensitive to your Spirit and follow on the narrow path you have for me.  Help me to love others well and be about your agenda today.  Feel free to interrupt my plans for yours.  I love you Lord and it’s in your name I pray.  Amen IMG_1530
