A New Narrative
Have you ever thought about your life’s story up until this point and wondered how it could be different? If only we could go back and repair some of the shortcomings and mistakes we made. If only we could replace guilt with acceptance and frustration with grace. Jeremiah 6:16 says, This is what the Lord says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.” I was sharing this scripture with a friend the other day who is in a huge life transition as well as going through some guilt from her past. I reminded her that we can design a new narrative for ourselves. We can rewrite a tragedy by walking out a new story. God wants to give this to us. We can open the door, follow the narrow path and leave behind some of these negative cognitions we continue to let have control of our minds.
Today Jesus and I are at a new restaurant in town having a Quinoa bowl. It’s so healthy and plentiful with veggies and protein. He is talking to me about this particular scripture and the first time it came so alive for me. In fact, it practically jumped off the page because it was exactly where I was at. I was standing at a huge crossroads contemplating a move across the country. My dear friend Melissa (who I have mentioned previously) challenged me to deliberately and boldly ask for a new beginning under God’s perfect will and walk in it! After seeking wisdom and discernment from wise counsel and the Lord, I made the move across the country. It was a huge leap of faith!
Are you standing at a crossroads? Are you waiting for the Lord to open a new door for you? Sisters, His wisdom and direction are perfect. Wait for it to come! It will be so worth the patience you exert. Little did I know that the Lord was preparing me for the Wilderness in Chicago, but he had prepared my heart to do it. I actually desired the move once it came time to go. It was two years of refinement and brokenness weaved together with some of the sweetest joy. I encourage you as you transition in this season. I hope you will take a look at the thoughts and cognitions you have in your mind and allow them to be transformed into new cognitions. Let us pray for the renewing of our minds.
Dear Jesus~Thank you for the path you have me on. Thank you that my times are completely in your hands. I trust you. Help me to trust you more. I have some regrets and very negative thoughts in my mind about myself and I need to help me rewrite this narrative. Please give me a new story. I submit my negative constructs and cognitions to you. I set my heart in your loving hands. Take my life and let it be for your glory. I claim the newness you have for me in Jesus name. I stand at these crossroads and look. I ask for the ancient way. Your way! Your way is best. Thank you for these doors that are going to open for me. I love you Lord Amen!
