True You, Real Identity

This morning I was meeting with a client and we got into an in depth conversation about identity. It was powerful! She was talking about detaching from the identity of her Earthly Father and attaching to the true, real identity of her Heavenly Father. I thought, I have to write about this!

We have a choice in this sisters. We can decide if we want to walk around as adults who are entangled by an identity that is unhealthy or we can become fully grown up and adopt the identity we have been given by our Father. It is beautiful! He calls us chosen, adopted, beloved, children of God. With this comes a lot of responsibility too. We are called to be imitators of Christ. The word says in Ephesians 5:1-2, “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.” We can do this because we have the perfect example in Him. His love makes us complete and ready to detach from our old familial identities.

Today Jesus and I are at a new breakfast place having the most divine spicy, sweet bacon I have ever tasted. We are talking about the above topic and enjoying the views of the bay. It is a new glorious day! I want us to ponder and take inventory today sisters. I want us to think on whether we are doing our due diligence to heal from our family of origin. Even if we had the perfect family ( which is not possible) we will likely have some sort of old wounds to process. Are you aware of the ways in which it may be healthy for you to detach from an old tape playing in our mind? Are you mindful of the Fathers attentiveness in helping you heal from these old wounds? He is ready, willing and able to be our help.

I would like us to spend some time praying for our future husbands and to surrender these old wounds and tapes to Jesus. He delights in giving us a new, fresh identity in Him. Dear Jesus~ Thank you for my future husband. I delight in our future of seeing, knowing and loving each other completely. It is so the desire of my heart to have and hold him all of my days. I cannot wait until you unite our lives in perfect union and togetherness. I pray for him this day! You are faithful to release him from any old lies or tapes he may be believing in his mind. You are able to give him a new paradigm about himself and his identity. Father heal him and me so that we can do your perfect will here in the Kingdom. I love you Lord and it’s in your name I pray. Amen!
